Entrance: Ansonia Apartments (Corrected Version)--Detroit MI

Entrance: Ansonia Apartments (Corrected Version)--Detroit MI

The Ansonia has an elaborate stone surround at this entrance. This building (erected 1908) has its pre-1920 numbering system address incised in stone. The updated address hangs precariously. This is the Temple Street entrance; there are two entrances on Second Avenue. I have other shots of the Ansonia in the Detroit and Detroit Everyday groups.

This is a straightened and auto-fixed version of a photo posted a few years earlier.

McGregor Library Doors (Corrected Version)--Highland Park MI

McGregor Library Doors (Corrected Version)--Highland Park MI

This is the main portion of the bronze doors at the McGregor Library in Highland Park. Note that both figures are touching the "flame of knowledge." The figure on the left represents industry. The figure on the right represents this post-World War 1 boomtown's agricultural past. The Ford Motor Company drove the city's phenomenal growth.

This is a slightly straightened and auto-fixed version of a picture I took a few years ago. The uncorrected version is still viewable.

Brown's Bun Bakery (Color Version)--Detroit MI

Brown's Bun Bakery (Color Version)--Detroit MI

This bakery on Vernor is a subtle example of Art Deco styling. The bottom stripe has been repainted since this shot.

I have other photos (beyond the 200 in this Photostream) in the Detroit, Detroit Everyday and Detroit Architecture Groups.

Sixth Church of Christ, Scientist (Color Version)--Detroit MI

Sixth Church of Christ, Scientist (Color Version)--Detroit MI

This Christian Science church on the city's East Side is a fine example of "stripped-down" classicism. It was built in 1938-9 and designed by George D. Mason & Company. As an example note the fluted columns and minimalist capitals. But unlike its neo-Classical predecessors it lacks a pediment or anything beyond minimal decoration.
