Some days

"There are a lot of people who think our job is to reassure the public every night that their home, their community and their nation is safe. I don't subscribe to that at all. I subscribe to leaving people with essentially - sorry it's a cliché - a rough draft of history. Some days it's reassuring, some days it's absolutely destructive."

    - Peter Jennings, American TV journalist, who died Sunday of lung cancer at the
    age of 67

As previously written, I've discovered that one of my photos is currently under consideration for a prize in a competition held by The International Guide For Freedom. The theme is "Freedom of Thought," and so I chose a shot of Jolene floating blissfully in the water at her new lake home.

A glitch in their system has been fixed, so use this link to get to the site, and choose the "EXTRA" group. Once there, scroll down, put a check next to my name, and click "Submit Vote."

I understand that many other Flickr members have entries in the running, but the prize money would definitely keep the powers at be from hauling me away to debtor's prison for a while. So, if you feel like helping out, it would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you.

      I voted for you, Duane.

I'm pleased you used this quote by Peter Jennings as your caption. He was a gem from the old school of journalism and will be sorely missed.

Your shot captures a bit of the Big Apple's hurriedness.

I think all of us "men and women on the street" will miss his composed professionalism. Nice tribute.

I like this one - it has something special -
      can't quiet grasp it - but it's cool :)

I like the unsettling texture on the hand- it speaks of age and maybe a vulnerable visceral entrance to an otherwise slick image on the surface. Your work is always so engaging in its small unexpected details.

i love the way the tie looks and the way the title is open to interpretation and the layer of people and how everyone remains anonymous yet it suggests a definite narrative. that's all...
