Having recently visited the Farm Security Administration photo collection at the Library of Congress, I appreciate seeing photos like this available online.(The FSA photos are, too.)

Fantastic composition, contrast, detail to subject matter, and tone. All the hallmark of Mr. Collier.

The simplicity, interest and curiosity of a child's mind rendered perfectly in one shot. Beautiful.

I particularly like this photo, particularly the ways the girl are both hard at work and conscious of the camera simultaneously. I took a number of photos from this collection and placed them in the header of a site for museum class I am teaching. (Link.) Hope this doesn't pose a problem. I will be explaining where they're from and linking to the exhibit and the flickr page on the class homepage on the right-hand sidebar. Great stuff!

      Best,
      Jim

I'm so excited to find these photos online here! I knew they could be found at the FSA archive site, but am a bit late to discover them here. The girl on the left is my grandmother. =)

The girl on the right is my neighbor, Mary Ann. She is in great health, and walks the neighborhood every day. She has a book with all these photos too.
My mother-in-law is from Fort Kent.

Thank you so much for accepting my invitation to add your wonderful picture to my humble little group (Maine in Black and White). I grew up in a small rural town in Maine in the 40s, and these girls are so typical of my friends and neighbors. It really brings back wonderful memories of a simpler time.
