Washington Heights Public Art - Konstantin Bokov I

Pinehurst Avenue north of West 181st Street in Washington Heights rests on a cliff, and the only access to it from West 181st Street is a steep staircase up the cliff. The area in between is landscaped with walls, ground cover . . . and public art.

Konstantin Bokov is a local Ukrainian immigrant who creates art out of plastic scraps, pieces of old tires, dead branches and the like - he's what is called an "environmental artist." Five examples of his environmental art line a fence halfway up the steps to Pinehurst Avenue.

This is a whimsical piece, actually. It shows a penguin trying to manipluate a computer keyboard.
