UK - London - The City: Paul Julius Reuter statue
Paul Julius Reuter
Born in 1816 - Kassel, Germany
Died 1899 -Nice, France
Founded the World News Organisation that bears his name in No. 1 Royal Exchange building in the City of London near this site on 19 October 1851.
The statue can be found behind the Royal Exchange where Paul Julius Baron von Reuter founded his world famous Reuters news service after moving back to Britain. Previously he set up an institute in Aachen, Germany which transferred messages between Brussels and Aachen using carrier pigeons prior to the telegram's availability. This was the missing link to connect Berlin and Paris. The carrier pigeons were much faster than the post train, giving Reuter faster access to stock news from the Paris stock exchange.
