Many talk about a direct connection with
nature, or with their chosen deity (which, of
course, *is* nature for many). This bond is
most often described verbally, as visible
detail - especially photographic - is tough
to find. And though there may be passion in
the words, nothing evokes visceral awe and
appreciation for our coupling with spiritual
power quite like an image. An image exactly
like this one.
Yes, the landscape as a whole is a gorgeous
sight...your treasure chest of digital
mountain-top souvenirs for us sea-level folk
is a joy. But there is more here...and kudos
to the genius in your approach to find it;
you've kept the image dark, focusing our
attention on human, the sun, and the light
that binds the two. Even the mountains have
parted in honor of this calm, powerful
communion, spreading aside and giving way for
an uphill flow of golden wisdom.
There is a 'man meets mountain' aspect to
this image; but I feel a more primal
discussion is also captured: provider meets
seeker. Thousands of hectares in this photo,
but it all comes down to an enlightened
thread of understanding between the two main
subjects. Wonderful. I am an Admin for *ABW* Gallery - one of the best kept secrets on Flickr,
and we would be honored to display
"Expedition to the Oberland 14"
with our collection of phenomenal
photography. Please visit the *ABW* Gallery home page and you will see that your image will find
excellent company; especially if you like
your own work ;-)

Surfwax - many thanks for the comment and the
invitation - both an honour. Alas, how very
far this image falls short of the reality
.... you are right, though, it was a very
special experience skiing down that glacier
at sunrise. Not one would expect to repeat in
a lifetime....
In case I die in my sleep tonight ~~ actually
it's nearly dawn, so it would be while I'm in
bed this rainy morning ~~ I want you to know,
kind Captain, that your eyes are blazing
beacons on Flickr and your instincts are
sharper than crampons. Everything surfwax
said is stitched onto this image like fine
gold embroidery, and whatever I add can only
be superfluous embellishment. Your picture is
a monument to mountains and mountaineers, to
photography, and to unspeakable beauty in
nature. I salute you, Captain.

Many thanks for the encomium, coyrooster.
High praise indeed for a humble compact
camera with an alpine droog behind it. Yet
how far the image falls short of the reality,
alas....

Haven't dared to print yet, David/. .... taken with a compact camera, so the output of this lens is best viewed kind of small, on the web....
