To me, this picture represents the two dimensions of love that can be realized in marriage. The simple, physical nature of the picture, which only shows the couple's feet, speaks to the instinctual, physical need for closeness that humans experience. Despite the picture's seemingly unrelated subject matter, it immediately evokes a deeper, sentimental response almost immediately upon viewing. This engenders the transcendental or 'vertical' nature of marital union.
