Tom

Tom

There are a lot of reasons why I haven't been doing much here lately. Lots of work is one, and I have to skulk around at work all the time and try hard not to get noticed. That makes it very unnatural to jump out at strangers now.

Also fishing with Tom, playing sport with Tom, answering nine million questions a day from Tom...

I will be back soon...

Early morning light. Lake Eppalock with a Hacoflex TLR.

Early morning light. Lake Eppalock with a Hacoflex TLR.

Submitted to the ABC open Group as part of water week.

Water to me, at least big expanses of it, make me really relaxed. I can't remember where I read it, but I think it was in one of the Douglas Adams books, but he had an idea about why people like standing at the edge of the sea. He said that people like to stand at the boundary between one place (land) and another (the sea) and thing about their own boundaries. It seems about right to me.

I bought five film cameras from eBay. The two I've decided to keep are an Olympus OM2n with a 50mm f1.8 lens, and a Hacoflex TLR, which is/was a knock-off of the better Rollei's and Yashica's.

This is from the first roll I put through the Hacoflex. I'd never understood the big whoop with SOOC before. I still don't understand the big whoop about it with a digitally captured file. I opened this up after I got it scanned and was about to do some minor tweaking but then decided I liked it just as it was. So here it is, uncropped, no colour correction or sharpening.

My first film upload and my first SOOC

Coliban river, near Redesdale

Coliban river, near Redesdale

I've driven over this bridge a hundred times an I always look over the side at 100km/h. Today I went down at dawn and had a look at 1 km/h. There is a nice sandy river beach, clear water and a small weir. The kids are going to love it.
