Horny!

Here's the horny old goat, a bit better focussed and composed than his last appearance!

Now taking orders for the DeleteMe group www.flickr.com/groups/deleteme/
What's he to be? Honoured guest ruminant at the BBQ or just another kebab?

Hooray for goats! He's got wonderful horns.

    5. RichardLowkes (86 months ago | reply)

He looks so graceful! Does he have a home?

    6. Marramgrass (86 months ago | reply)

He does look kind of smug.

What does he know that I don't?

    7. Ilja (86 months ago | reply)

You have captured the essential goatness, I think.

(Although I don't think he looks smug. To me he looks like he wants to be petted.)

    8. SteveFE (86 months ago | reply)

He's a killer. Do not be deceived by his smile. He is the guilty party in the butting to death of poor old Boney.

    9. Cyberesque (86 months ago | reply)

      Oh he's gorgeous :)

    10. Rexton (86 months ago | reply)

It almost looks like he could lift off with those aerofoils, ;-)

    11. Miss Plum (86 months ago | reply)

and who, pray tell, is poor old Boney?

    12. SteveFE (86 months ago | reply)

Miss Plum - look 3 or 4 photos downstream and you will find poor old Boney.

      baaaahhhhh

    14. Jan Tik (86 months ago | reply)

Great shot, Steve. I also love the pregnant sky as backdrop.

    15. Marramgrass (86 months ago | reply)

      You do capture rockin' skies.

    16. SteveFE (86 months ago | reply)

Didn't fiddle with that sky either. It was no brighter than the goat so no need for exposure trickery. Only treatment here was a bit of USM and a mild S-curve to jazz up the contrast.

    17. eqqman (86 months ago | reply)

Good stuff. Looks like he's smiling.

    18. curlsdiva (86 months ago | reply)

Brrr I've seen that focussed look on goats before... right before they headbutt you! A handsome fellow, right enough though...

    19. Bore (85 months ago | reply)

Great picture Steve, I love the greens and the sky and the Goat smile. Looks like a studio take.

    20. SteveFE (85 months ago | reply)

Definitely not studio, apart from the aforementioned spot of PS touching up. It's a house on a pretty wild hillside, on a rather uninspiring dull day. The curves definitely did help with the contrast, although Ireland is rather famous for being green ;-)

I always try to stay as far as I can from those guys, they can be quite mean with you! Or is it only with females? (see description ;-)) It's always a challenge for me to snap a shot of them and only managed twice in my life. This one is beautifully composed and the colors are very impressive.
The white of the fur works very well in contrast with the gray sky.

    22. noqontrol (85 months ago | reply)

I am just working on a goat image, they have such an rich iconography in the past, quite often a bad rep...LOL

    23. Trojan_Llama (85 months ago | reply)

Handsome and horny... Very nice goat Steve...

    24. Andy101 (84 months ago | reply)

I'm horny too and probably not as cute or as lucky as this goat. Just out of pure male testosterone induced jealousy I vote "deleteme" (from Delete me! group)

    25. SteveFE (84 months ago | reply)

That's the saddest reason for a deleteme yet. I pity you.

    26. StefZ (84 months ago | reply)

Goat's give me the horn but only when they haven't had their feet chopped off

At first i thought what? But now i quite like the old goat, the contrast is good and to see this in the safe sideshow would be funny....saveme

    29. Jim Skea (84 months ago | reply)

He's definitely smiling at the photographer, Steve. What did you just do to him?

    30. tap tap tap (84 months ago | reply)

at least it's not a cat photo

wait -- it IS sort of a cat photo

Like liltrix, I thought from the thumb that this was going to be a deleteme for sure. And yet somehow I like this shot enough to find myself voting for a horny old goat . . .
(I'm talking about the subject of the photo, not Steve)

just not feelin' this one. i think a close up would be better...the background seems distracting to me.

Very nice contrasts and goat pose :) Also exposed correctly, nothing blown out. It's a keeper.

    36. Violet Danger [deleted] (84 months ago | reply)

Have to just say - wolffman, you don't like the background? Are you kidding me? without the background, it would just be a picture of a goat. I think seeing the environment adds so much more to this - it's almost fairytale-ish. I keep thinking if I stare at it long enough, I'll see Pan come dancing through playing his pipes.

perhaps it's beacuse he's so centered, but I just can't vote for this one -- no particular flaws, other than the composition isn't working for me

YEEEHAWWW! Cheers Ger, you're not such a tosser after all. Thanks for not taking my last parting shot to heart and I am humbled by your magnanimity.

    42. SteveFE (84 months ago | reply)

Goats rock, and they're better for your garden than strimmers.

    43. SteveFE (84 months ago | reply)

Outside its five minutes of fame on DeleteMe, I'd take a fave over a save anyday. Thanks! Mind you, saveme11 has been done before...

    44. _ . : * ~ ® gerard_belfast ® ~ * : . _ (84 months ago | reply)

steve, i couldn't possibly vote this one down. the goat's expression is priceless and the image is brilliantly well captured - it's technically exceptional as far as i can tell.

regarding the magnanimity thing, i'm simply remembering the rules: when it's over, it's over. ;o)

great pic ... adding as fave.

    45. Cade Buchanan (84 months ago | reply)

This is amazing, it has to be the best photo I have ever seen on flickr (former best being a praying mantis shot which has now totally been eclipsed by this!).

    46. -ScarlettveinZ- [deleted] (84 months ago | reply)

      great shot~!!

    47. Cade Buchanan (84 months ago | reply)

ziz I actually discovered this photo when it was already in the safe, none of the save me votes were mine - just in case that comment was directed at me.

    48. SteveFE (84 months ago | reply)

ziz - typical elitist throwaway comment typical of deleteme. I don't claim this pic as anything special, although I do like it and think it's worthy of the safe, but if Cade likes it that much, way to go! His opinion's as valid as yours, probably more so as he's actually commented on the photo and not just somebody else's comment.

Cade - thaks for the vote of confidence, but I can assure you there ARE better photos on Flickr! Most of the ones I fave I do because I wish I'd taken them.

    49. SteveFE (84 months ago | reply)

OK, I'll remove the offending word if it bugs you that much but the rest stands. If you want to make a suggestion to the admins about what you think a "noob" vote is worth, then tell them in the group or via Flickrmail, don't bury it in a picture's string of comments. As a matter of interest all the saveme votes do actually say something about the picture, not just some blando "nice shot" crap, so I'm not sure where you're coming from anyway.

As for educated discourse, well I know a well-composed and well-exposed shot when I see one (not that I always take them though), and I usually try to make some valid comment in the spirit of this group whenever I vote, although some are just so plain awful they're not worthy of anything involving too much application. I also like a bit of namecalling and rough stuff ;-)

Read the rules? I just did, but please enlighten me as to which one I'm violating.

      POQ? Not a chance.

    50. Cade Buchanan (84 months ago | reply)

I thought I'd add more of a detailed comment to express why I got so over the top in my comment as I am so in love with this picture.

Firstly, my claiming this as in my mind the best photo I've ever seen on flickr (and I've been a member of flickr for a year) I still hold to, and true I'm an animal lover so I'm drawn to it firstly for that reason, but following on from that the colours are so so rich, I love the composition, the texture, the pose of the animal, and the different layers of landscape around the goat. In my mind it's absolute perfection.

In my mind it'd be a crime for this NOT to be in the safe :-)
