Loops!: thinking about the next step

Pattern: Spring Fling from The New Crewel
Materials: washed/shrunk flour sacking yardage; DMC cotton embroidery floss
Techniques: it is all satin stitch. [outline in 3-ply chain stitch, then 1-ply satin stitch]
    Stitchery size: 7" square

the idea is modern redwork. to get there, though, i've got lots of embroidery to do. i'll just keep stitching squares for fun. with all of them in my red/brown palette, they should go together just fine.

thanks, everyone! i'm so thrilled to have this long-term project underway with some direction now. i'll keep you posted on its progress...

yeah, i buy online. these fat quarters were just a "red pack" available on a sale page somewhere. there is a LQS not too far from me, but i sometimes get creeped out by the ladies there.

i have mixed feelings about the traditional redwork genre and shied away because i feared the embroidery. with more modern designs, though, i think redwork could be really fun.

i have a book from france with nothing but 'red work' but the designs are on the more traditional side. i'll take photos for you soon. (maybe not today as the light is kind of crap)

oh, yes, i'd love to see a few photos! my search online moved into "broderie rouge" and i may have paid a few too many euros for a french book or two this weekend.
