Greater Horn of Africa: 20 years of helping refugees 2012
15/06/2012 - Close to one million people live as refugees in the Horn of Africa. Conflicts and droughts have been the leading causes of population movements across borders.
ECHO is working with partners across the region providing humanitarian assistance. From Dadaab camp in Kenya, which has existed for almost 20 years, to Jaman in South Sudan, which is recent, the European Commission is providing basic life-saving services to refugee populations, including medicine, food, shelter and water. In 2012 the European Commission has allocated €24 million to answer the basic needs of refugees in the Horn of Africa.
