Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 DC

    Newer Older

This is my wonderful Christmas present from my super-wife, Marline. It's a Sigma 18-125mm f/3.5-5.6 DC zoom lens, which will replace two of my current lenses.

See my shots taken with this lens.

UPDATE: I'm pretty sure Sigma has discontinued this model, but here's my take: It's soft on the wide end (which is why I got the 10-20mm!), but great from about 40mm to 125mm. It has an amazingly close focusing distance when fully zoomed (just over a foot away), which can yield some neat shots. It's noisy when focusing, but that doesn't bother me, as long as it's fast.

I have one of those. Nice little lens. What is it replacing?

      Steve:
On the wide end, it's replacing my 18-55mm kit lens (which I only kept because of the wide 18mm), and on the "middle end," it's replacing my 28-105mm Canon lens.

This one covers both ranges, and so has now become my "walk-around lens."

However, I will probably keep the 28-105mm for a while, since it's USM, and still in perfect condition.

The kit lens, I'm going to sell for $20, or toss it. Who knows?

Sounds like a great lens. You have me thinking I may need to get something similar :) After all, Valentine's Day is not far away.

Here's the secret of the white background: I have a white metal filing cabinet, which is the vertical whiteness at the back. For the horizontal surface at the bottom, I used a stiff piece of white posterboard, lying on the floor and pushed up against the filing cabinet. The lighting is from one of those cheap, handheld spotlights you can get at a hardware store for $15.

On Jan. 5, 2006, I found the above pic in Flickr's Most Interesting:

I have this lens in Pentax mount on K100D. One question for you all: did you notice any vignetting at the 125mm end? Or is it just me?
