Seven Sisters - San Luis Obispo, CA

    Shot with Nikon D300 and Nikkor 18-200mm @ 18mm.

Update: The Seven Sisters is reference to the series of volcanic peaks that stretch from San Luis Obispo to Morro Bay. There are indeed seven of them, although this picture only shows 5 or 6. The final one in Morro Bay is the famous Morro Rock.

This is a very calming shot. I love the fact that you didn't boost all the colors up to more saturated -- I like this photo with the muted tones as you have it here. Good use of subject placement, and good focus. The fence and the boulders in the foreground draw the eye, and the fence line leads the eye into the mountains and the subtle tones in the sky. Well done.

      seven sisters? seven hills/mountains?

first and foremost i like the composition of the mountains and the different elements that are visible: hills, plants, rocks, fence, and etcetera. since the image is a landscape, i suggest other people to view the larger version.

unlike dmcantrell, i would have loved to see just a tad more contrast, vibrance, and/or saturation. of course that is personal preference.

nevertheless, great shot and happy new year.

      =)

Very well coposed and framed, nice foreground textures leading into the mountains, fabulous light and colouring...a very appealing and addressing landscape photograph!!

Beautiful landscape. I'm not sure what the seven sisters is in reference to, but not a big deal. I think that the colors are fine as they are. Im guessing this was done at sunset with the tones of the sky. The foreground is alittle bit distracting for me in all honesty. But at the same time, if you zoom in tighter or crop the foreground, you will get a shot of the hills and not so much a landscape. Overall this is a nice photo and it has a warm feel to it. Well done.

This is very well-composed in my opinion.. it makes you feel like you are there on a nice day - the tinge of color in the rock in the foreground catches the eye, and then leads the eye up the ravines to the top, and gently over the remaining Sisters.

Footcandle, I just discovered your images thanks to a comment you made about my Kit Fox photo. I love your work because, I think, you so well capture the moods of the Central Coast.

Love the photo - I haven't seen too many great photos like this of the Seven Sisters! The tones are great and I especially like the foreground. Anyone in the SLO area can appreciate the fencing, those rocks and the trails.

I love the colors! Extra points if you can name all seven peaks :)

There are actually 9 in the chain, not 7. the seven sisters are actually the name given to a young cluster of stars. This shot is beautiful! Good job.

They originally called them the Seven Sisters in reference to the nickname given to some chalk cliffs in England. I think one of these old extinct volcanoes is underwater off the coast. In the winter in California, when everything is green after the rains, it looks a lot like England or Ireland! Thanks for these great pics.
