This is ole hat for him. From the worn sign,
the crumpled bag and the way he's holding his
cup, he's been doing this for a long time. I
like this shot a lot--primarily because you
were able to get so close to him. He seems
oblivious to you and that's makes this image
all the more remarkable.
Loneliness is the theme it portrays... as
well as destitution, hopelessness, hungry,
and the list goes on from there. It almost
looks like he sat there just for you. While
this is a serious matter, he could be a
poster boy for the cause.
Technically, I love the simplicity, the
exposure is tack sharp, everything is brought
to light in his tiny little corner of the
world. In fact the shot is so clean that it
almost looks staged but it seems to be a very
cold day given the frozen drainage water
under the sign.
I love the photo Would like to use it in some publicity for
our "Nightstop" project providing
emergency accommodation for young people.
Obviously it's non-commercial so from the
information I can find it appears to be ok to
use it - but I wanted to check with you and
ask how you would like it attributed to you. Cheers
I sometimes wonder how one ends up in a
situation like this. I think of myself and my
wife and daughter as being lucky to have a
roof over our heads...and then I think back a
few months when we had a serious falling out
with our previous landlord and the potential
of being on the streets, or at the best being
in our car, was quite real.
Joe stated some time back (it says 10 months
ago as of this writing) that it looks like
he's been doing this for awhile. It'd be
interesting to somehow track this guy down
and see if he's doing the same thing.
As for the photo itself, it's perfect. I
personally think the toning is right on, and
the focus and depth of field is superb.
Great pictures of homeless people. How do you
take these pictures? do you ask them friendly
and give something in reward or something? I
love taking pictures of all different kind
of people but i find it hard to ask, most of
the time i just don't take the picture. How
do you do that.. Again, nice pictures
Harvest Project (www.harvestproject.org)
would like to use this photo for a
fundraising campaign and information
brochure. Firstly, can we use the photo and
secondly, how do we credit you with it -
should we just use Sampac?
Hi, I'm doing a charity gig to raise money
for a homeless shelter and I'd really like to
use this image for the poster - is this at
all possible? Please contact me on

you! Chelsie

I see an apparently young, strong man, quite capable of supporting himself. Where did his strenght go ? His character ? I wish he finds it somewhere.
Excellent picture in terms of involvement. Please tell us more about how to approach this type of subject.
Technically the only remark I'd make is maybe some tuning of the contrast.
