St. John's Point Lighthouse
This is St. John's Point Lighthouse (well, that tiny little thing on the horizon is). Located on a small peninsula west of Donegal, we drove out to this spot in hopes of catching sunset. While there was some terrific light in the hour proceeding it, the skies clouded over heavily by then.
Really cool spot here, and one of my favorites from Ireland. Very interesting rock formations adorned the coast, with large cliffs — only a couple of meters behind me here — and sweeping views all around.
Fun story: Getting in and out of this location, you travel on a road not much wider than a typical mid-size sedan. As we were about 100 meters from the lighthouse, a truck was coming towards us. We had no choice but to either reverse for like a mile, or pull off the road to accommodate them. We chose the latter, then said eh, we'll just stay parked here.
Now, fast forward an hour when I finish shooting and we realize we are parked in and stuck in mud. My friends and I figure no problem, we'll push it out. Nope. Impossible. We try a myriad of solutions, none of which are successful, and as the sun retreated fully, we decide we're out of options, so we finally give in and call emergency (btw, I had the only working mobile phone). We called emergency because the closest house was 2.5 miles away, at least. The gentleman we got a hold of said he'd get someone out there with a tow. It was only about another thirty minutes and we're back on the road. Turns out he reached out to someone who knew someone who knew a farmer or something not far from our location, and he drove out out of sheer kindness to tow us out ... with just his small automobile and a ten foot length of rope. Wouldn't accept anything as payment, and only wished us well on our travels.
The moral of the story here: (1) We're stupid for not thinking the ground was muddy, and (2) The Irish people are unbelievably kind. :)

The Giant's Causeway
This is the famous Giant's Causeway, an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of volcanic eruption some 50+ million years ago. Very cool. Was hoping for a good sunset, but was skunked. Still got some excellent moody cloud cover which helped to convince me to process this one as a b/w.

Sunset at the Cliffs of Moher
Spent ten days in Ireland. Sad to be back, but excited to share some new stuff. First shot is from the famed Cliffs of Moher. This flat ledge was subjected to the most intense winds I've felt in a long time, and it was absolutely necessary to keep the tripod — and myself — as low to the ground as possible. I have a few photos from up there at the very edge, but I shot hastily and got the hell back to where I wasn't concerned about being blown off a 100-meter cliff.
This was one of I think two actual colorful sunsets I witnessed over there. And this obviously isn't really that colorful at all. Wild weather over there. Anyway, blog here.

Sunrise in Old Orchard Beach
Had plans to hang out in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, yesterday, so I figured I may as well get a sunrise shoot in somewhere beforehand. Reached out to Moe and we rocked some shots in Old Orchard Beach. A promising-looking sunrise turned out to be fairly boring, but it was a blast. Played with the Singh-Ray Gold-N-Blue a lot. Sky's really blown out here, but I think this was my favorite overall composition of the morning.
This may be my last upload for a bit; heading to Ireland for ten days beginning this coming Friday. Cheers, friends.

Rockaway Beach Sunset
It was a good 60+ miles north from Cape Kiwanda to Cannon Beach, the original sunset plan. Not sure exactly what happened, but we had fallen behind our schedule, and no way would we be hitting Cannon in time. Whipped out the ol' iPhone and took notice of the coastal community of Rockaway Beach, complete with enormous sea arch just off the coast. Sounded good to me.
Unfortunately, there wasn't much to work with, other than this huge chunk of driftwood (make no mistake; this thing was like 20 feet long). Still wound up with a cool comp, I think.
