Blue Hour Dublin
Another from along the river Liffey in Dublin. Again facing the Samuel Beckett Bridge, but from the other side of the river. The Convention Centre Dublin lies center frame.

Blue Hour at Harvard University
A break from the Irish photography for tonight; gathered up some inspiration from Yen Baet for this shot. A master at blue hour shooting, Yen's been inspiring me since the day I discovered her work.
This is shot from the Allston, Massachusetts, side of the Charles River, at the John W. Weeks footbridge. Across the river is Harvard University. Blog here.

Sunset Over Dublin
It's a dreary, rainy day in Boston, so I thought I'd share a colorful sunset. This is the Samuel Beckett bridge, Dublin. I was walking along the river Liffey and wanted to shoot this bridge at the blue hour. It was a cloudy day, but they broke a bit in the late afternoon and the sunset produced some terrific color. It was actually my last night in Ireland, and finally got a really pretty sunset. Lucky me. Wish I had a more interesting comp, but it all came on pretty quickly, so I had to set up where I was.

St. John's Point Lighthouse
This is St. John's Point Lighthouse (well, that tiny little thing on the horizon is). Located on a small peninsula west of Donegal, we drove out to this spot in hopes of catching sunset. While there was some terrific light in the hour proceeding it, the skies clouded over heavily by then.
Really cool spot here, and one of my favorites from Ireland. Very interesting rock formations adorned the coast, with large cliffs — only a couple of meters behind me here — and sweeping views all around.
Fun story: Getting in and out of this location, you travel on a road not much wider than a typical mid-size sedan. As we were about 100 meters from the lighthouse, a truck was coming towards us. We had no choice but to either reverse for like a mile, or pull off the road to accommodate them. We chose the latter, then said eh, we'll just stay parked here.
Now, fast forward an hour when I finish shooting and we realize we are parked in and stuck in mud. My friends and I figure no problem, we'll push it out. Nope. Impossible. We try a myriad of solutions, none of which are successful, and as the sun retreated fully, we decide we're out of options, so we finally give in and call emergency (btw, I had the only working mobile phone). We called emergency because the closest house was 2.5 miles away, at least. The gentleman we got a hold of said he'd get someone out there with a tow. It was only about another thirty minutes and we're back on the road. Turns out he reached out to someone who knew someone who knew a farmer or something not far from our location, and he drove out out of sheer kindness to tow us out ... with just his small automobile and a ten foot length of rope. Wouldn't accept anything as payment, and only wished us well on our travels.
The moral of the story here: (1) We're stupid for not thinking the ground was muddy, and (2) The Irish people are unbelievably kind. :)

The Giant's Causeway
This is the famous Giant's Causeway, an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of volcanic eruption some 50+ million years ago. Very cool. Was hoping for a good sunset, but was skunked. Still got some excellent moody cloud cover which helped to convince me to process this one as a b/w.
