Muir Beach Restoration

Muir Beach Restoration

Near the mouth of Redwood Creek there is a wonderful restoration effort afoot. The stream has been freed from historic channelization, horse paddocks have been moved away from the stream to protect it from coliform bacteria. The cattle pastures are being planted with native shrubs and grasses. The hillsides have been planted to limit the sediment load. Willows have been planted along the stream's bank for shade, to keep the temperature low enough for the salmon that find their way back to Muir Woods. Wood is being put into the channel to establish shade and shelter for salmon and other native species. It's a great project pursued in partnership with Muir Woods National Monument and other landholders in the watershed.
