Striated Pardalote

Striated Pardalote

Striated Pardalote (Pardalotus striatus)
Location: Gluepot, SA (11/08/2012)
Gear: Canon 7D and EF400 5.6L @ F6.3 1/200 ISO800 400mm playback
PP: Adobe Raw, adjust highlights, saturation, blacks, clarity, levels, noise reduction bg, remove branch, sharpen, crop.
-------------------
There were lots of Striated Pardalotes at Gluepot and one of the most common calls heard at our camp. Whilst a common bird I have not had much luck finding or photographing any type of Pardalote so I took the opportunity when a flock were feeding in a tree. I managed this shot in pretty poor light so the image lacks a little IQ but I liked the pose and setting. Thanks for looking.

A fellow birder came across some BFD on the upper Shoalhaven River towards Braidwood and took some great shots. I visited this morning and was happy to find four birds by the river. They sure are a great looking bird and behave just like the Red-capped Plovers here on the coast. Thanks for looking.

White-fronted Honeyeater

White-fronted Honeyeater

White-fronted Honeyeater (Purnella albifrons)
Location: Gluepot, SA (12/08/2012)
Gear: Canon 7D and EF400 5.6L @ F8 1/500 ISO400 400mm Tripod
PP: Adobe Raw, Highlights, blacks, shadows, clarity, curves, clone out branch, nr bg, sharpen, large crop.
-----------
We first encountered the White-fronted Honeyeater on Konardin Track at Hattah-Kulkyne National Park late one afternoon. We all admired this unusual looking honeyeater and attempted to get some shots but the birds were stuck to the top of trees. We tried again the next day and still the birds refused to co-operate. I was resigned to some poor ID shots. We continued on to Gluepot and we paid a visit to the old airstrip where there were hundreds of Eremophila plants flowering. As we got close we noticed a large number of White-fronted HE feeding and singing. We spent a late afternoon and early morning trying to get good shots however these birds seemed to have a built in human radar never landing very close. A pretty big crop but I liked the bg and thought it was worth sharing. Thanks for looking.

The beautiful Australian Ringneck or 'Mallee Ringneck' was a pretty common parrot during my recent trip. I was happy we found a small group feeding on one of the first flowering eucalypts in the Mallee allowing for a few photos.

PP: Adobe Raw, Highlights, Blacks, Shadows, Clarity, NR BG, Clone stick, sharpen, crop.

Time to show the female some attention. Whilst lacking the colour of the male I still think they have a beauty of their own. I took a few shots during the trip but didn't get the shot I was after. Like the Hooded Robin shot it wasn't until the very last shoot of the trip that I found a pair feeding at Kings Billabong. I stalked the female from tree to tree waiting for her to land in the light. I took this shot as she stopped for a short time. Not the perch I would have picked but I was happy to get a shot of the female. Thanks for looking.
