The watcher, watched

The watcher, watched

I drove over the dam wall after the previous image, and parked a distance away, on a small peninsula in the lake near the dam. I was the only one there, until this fellow wandered up and stood on the barbecue shelter wall. His body language was amazing - "I dominate" or some other stupid posture .He didn't - I still shot this candid of him.....

Olympus E-P2, Lumix 20mm f1.7 - a fantastic combo for a spot of street work.

One month's rainfall in one day

One month's rainfall in one day

I live in Canberra, Australia's capital. We live in the driest continent on earth. My city had 8 years of drought, then la Nina came along. This week we have had double our month's average rainfall already, and it is only March 4th. The East side of Australia is flooded now.

This is Scrivener Dam at 8am this morning, that normally holds back the waters of Lake Burley Griffin that I live alongside. I can't ever remember seeing three gates open...

Roger Waters - The Wall

Roger Waters - The Wall

Last night, we drove the 3 hour run to Sydney to see Roger Waters perform “The Wall”, then drove back, getting home after 2 am this morning. It’s surreal seeing no-one except the odd truck for most of the trip in the Australian pitch darkness, only accompanied by headlights, reflective road signs, and the bright stars of Orion before the crescent moon came up about 1 am. A vision of a fox eating something that was still alive on the side of the road at one point about an hour from home stuck in my head and intruded onto my wild dreams in my short sleep, pushing out the gig – the victim’s head was still moving, ugh.

I have dragged myself in to work today after a 6.30am wake-up, so I thought I might post a single phone camera image I took so that my entire day wouldn’t seem to be entirely wasted.

In two words, my review is: unbelievably brilliant. I am too tired to try for just one word today...
This image is from (I think) “Don’t leave me now”.

The gig finished after a standing ovation with an impromptu acoustic version of our real national anthem, “Waltzing Matilda”. Just brilliant. I only wish I had taken a proper camera.

Day of the Triffids

Day of the Triffids

Believe it or not, this is a flower! I don't know what plant it grows from, but it is some sort of gigantic aloe vera-looking succulent. Just bizarre.
