• One clip-on desk/worklamp to shine in this end.
  • This back section does not attach, it just gets pushed flush with the front.
  • Wall of trans-green bricks gets pushed flush with the front and back sections when they're together.
  • Trans green wall could go here or at an angle in front of the main tube. I didn't build out this end, so some non-green light seeped around the edges.
  • One clip on light to shine through the back right opening, or into the front from the right, depending on where I had the trans-green wall.
  • Mankind's greatest invention, after fire, and the wheel.
  • To fasten the end of the flexible corrugated tubing that runs along the ceiling inside. My next shorter pieces were too short. This beam sticking out did interfere with the camera somewhat when trying to take pictures.
  • VW Bug set, slowly being nibbled away as I need a dark blue plate here and there.
  • Chicken guards and some minifigs used in "The Other Shannon."
  • Some tablescraps - a vertical vignette with a bird in flight, and the leg framework of an attempted mech that's going nowhere.
  • For dusting MOCs that have been sitting out too long.
  • Started to sort through my old Magic: The Gathering cards to see if I had anything valuable I could sell. Any buyers? I have several boxes, and I haven't played in years.
  • Sixteen 1x12 arches for each side wall, Twenty for the back.
  • Five SNOTed bricks width (six studs) was just about exactly the right amount to suggest the curves in the opposing walls meeting in a perfect circle below the sludge level.
  • About halfway up the outside of this wall section a messy gantry sticks out and goes left and down, to attach the tentacles.
  • This is a very dim attic room, with one window facing north. Pics were taken in late afternoon, so there was a tiny bit of light coming from this direction.

  • MTG!? Ha! What a dork!

(I like fast red/green decks myself…but no, I don’t want to buy yours.)

Desperate Flight setup

A fairly quick build, the main time-consuming parts were figuring out what I wanted to do to detail the ceiling inside, and getting the tentacles in the right positions. Being an interior-only shoot, it stayed on the corner of the table amongst the mess where it was built, no need to set up the white posterboard background and all that good stuff.

I first took a few shots without the trans-green walls, but didn't like how those turned out. I thought I'd make a few other filter walls, in trans-red and trans-blue, and see which turned out best, but I really liked how the green made it look so I never bothered.

I've been thinking of doing a story about a salvage team roaming around a dim and deserted spaceship, which would require the proper mood lighting in relatively small interior spaces. This was kind of a test run for that.

Thanks for posting these. It's this sort of "Behind the scenes" information that pushes us all forward.

Yeah, cool to see the DVD extras. Thanks.

A salvage team build and storyline sounds like it has a lot of potential. I hope you can find the time and inspiration to follow up on that.

Classy: you actually used trans green bricks and not just green cellophane...

    ^ But of course! I'm a purist.

If you come up with a story, I'd happily build a set for a few panels. I loved building interior only MOCs, and this could make for an excellant collaboration. Something to chew on.

^ Interesting thought... I'll definitely keep that in mind. You'd have to promise not to upstage me too badly, though.
