- He couldn't control himself and emptied his glass before the toast.

I hope everyone is having a great holiday season. We had to try out our new little espresso cups. Starbucks has the set on clearance for $10.50. They are the perfect size for a Christmas tea party.
We're really enjoying all the fun family activities the season has to offer. Everyone is happy and healthy, especially since we put The Son back in diapers. We are both relieved to not have pooping on the potty be the focus of our entire day, every freaking day, for weeks. That plus our master bath renovation was draining me of my Christmas cheer. That one reprieve has me humming carols and back in the spirit of things. The boy is back to his old cheery, sweet self. Weeks of his defiant side had me thinking I dreamed he was ever my snuggle boy.
And if all the annual traditions weren't reminders enough of how quickly they are growing up, The Daughter has her first loose tooth. She's hoping it falls out Christmas Eve so the tooth fairy and Santa can see each other. My eyes welled up the second I saw it move. It seems like only yesterday I comforted her as it came in.
Our favorite new tradition this year is the elf Santa sent to live with us. We've named him Jingle elf and he is quite an adventuresome little guy. Each morning when he returns from updating Santa at the North Pole he finds a new crazier place to sit for the day. This morning he's on the ceiling fan in the living room. He arrived in a special box from the North Pole in early December. On Christmas Eve we leave him by Santa's cookie plate so he can ride back with Santa. Next December Santa will send us the same elf back. He's been a lot of fun, some days he brings notes, some days little gifts. If only he would bring some kitchen fairies.....

Oh...the elf on the shelf! I'm so glad someone else does this!
On the diaper issue..I think you're doing the right thing. Your lil one sounds like mine...he will do it when HE wants to! I struggled for a long time and finally said, "Forget it! He'll have to figure it out." Two weeks later, he said, "I need to go potty." and ran off to the bathroom. My husband and I looked at each other...did he just say that? Sure enough, he used the potty from then on. I wish the same ease for you!

Funny! I had the same elf as a little girl in the 70s - but never heard the story to go along! Next year I'll be starting this tradition with my son. Thanks so much for sharing!!!
