Idyllic Alaska

    Newer Older

with mountains, snow, trees, a lake, wildflowers, and even a few homes along the Seward Highway on the Kenai Peninsula.

The white flowering foreground plants I initially guessed were Queen Anne's lace. However, thanks to "Mark Yezbick" and "dirtev", they have been identified as either cow parsnip (a.k.a., hogweed) or poison hemlock, respectively. In either case it is important to stay away from them because they are both poisonous to humans. It was my dumb luck to not have ventured too close.

that white flower is actually Cow Parsnip, a hogweed - and when the sun is shining, such as in this photo, it emits a phototoxin that can cause chemical burns on your skin.

good thing you didnt go in for the close up!

nice photo, i always drive past there thinking about photos there, but haven't done it yet. maybe this winter.

For almost a decade my brother has been begging me to come visit him up there. He built a house around that area too. Maybe I should've taken him up on that offer.
