We'd spotted this mother and 2 cubs about 45 min before this photo was taken. She was constantly on the move with her cubs following, and eventually started to hunt. Her cubs were well disciplined, keeping behind her in a line so as not to break cover. Eventually she spotted a couple of Thompson's gazelles, about 50 metres ahead of her. The acceleration of a cheetah is something to behold - it was amazing. And she chased the gazelle down even though he had quite a headstart - spectacular to witness, unfortunately too far away to photograph :) This photo was taken just after she had spotted the prey and was about to start stalking.

Always wanted to get a shot of one of these, but they're normally disappearing into the brush by the time I get the camera focussed. But finally managed to get a shot of one...

I struggled to tell the East African gazelles apart when I first arrived. So... the one of the left is a Grant's Gazelle - bigger, with straighter horns, and more lightly coloured than the Thompson's gazelle on the right. The Tommy is similar to the Springbok of Southern Africa, and features on every predator's menu!
