old cemetary

old cemetary by Gespür für Licht.
This old cemetary is just behind our house in the city center of Bonn, Germany. In the early summer mornings the birds in these old trees sing so loud, they will wake us at 5 a.m..

Beethoven's mother is buried here as well as Robert and Clara Schumann, the famous composers. Its an honor to be buried here.

For me the park aspect is the most important. The place is like a green lung in the city center. I love these huge and old trees.

This image is stitched from more that 100 single shots to give the viewer an impression of the place to transport the feeling of actually being there. It is also possible but not necessary to view this in a virtual reality viewer like PTviewer or Quicktime. I love to look all around in a glimpse and I love to discover all these little details in the 200-Megapixels-original file.

What an interesting story and it completes the photo. "Viewed on Large" is such a great way to see all of the details. I think you did exceptionally well putting this one together; and as you mentioned above, it truly gives the viewer a "feel" for being there. (Must be a very quiet neighborhood......LOL) Being involved in the ARTS here on the gulf coast, I find it exciting to view where Beethoven's mother is buried along with some of the other composers and their families (the Schumann's? WOW.......neat.)

Now, the photo itself. I love the hues of green along with all the many different colors of Mother Nature, herself. You really spent a lot of time putting this one together. The details are great and I love all the many textures all throughout the panaroma. Great that you kept the hint of blue skies seen through the limbs of the trees. I can't find anything that I dislike about the shot. Thanks for sharing it with all of us here at flickr.com.

I absolutely love this, you are very lucky to live near such a beautiful cemetery. I would spend my nights there more often than not if I were close by. I was looking at the large size and you did a very good job of conveying that feeling of actually being there inside the graveyard.

Absolutely fantastic photo - and holds up brilliantly when viewed at full size. The distortion and wintery feel help with the atmosphere. What makes it for me is the photographer's eye: the placement of the tree and the use of the bare branches as a canopy to the whole scene. As they say: an instant fave!

This is an outstanding image. I'd love to see a 1:1 photo-quality print of the full image! You've picked an exceptional subject to use an amazing technique with, and then you've achieved close to technical perfection. Outstanding; an easy 10.

Great shot and lots of work behind this shot. The light is amazing for all the shots you did. You can really see all the details.
I personally don't like the roundness of it. It specially disturbs me in the top and in the left of the picture. I think that a panoramic view without this effect (or less) would give the same feeling of being there in the graveyard. So for the small detail of the distortion I rate you.

I intend to experiment with equirectangular stuff using Panotools, which I downloaded recently but haven't played with yet. But I haven't got a fancy head to rotate round the nodal point ,so not sure how good the results will be. (I'm saying this like I know what I'm talking about, but I don't know jack).

its as easy to delete 200 Megapixels here as it is to delete two pixels.

The question raised earlier in this thread is whether to save or delete by criteria like "Taken witth a Nikon" or "Taken at 1/400 s" or "taken with a Zoom-lens" are satisfactory argumentation.

Its of course easy to delete without any argument like pizzo did.

I think a valid aesthetic question is:

Is the use of technology in any way justified to achieve the effect desired?

Was is necessary to use an expensive camera if a cheap camera was at hand?

Was is necessary to use a wide angle if a normal lens would have done the job as well.

I am already wanted here for teaching phiotography, so print a new wanted poster for teching a beginner course in aesthetics.

delete or save as you please but learn.

@Jobbys: I have the "Nodal Ninja 3" but I am not satisfied with it (wobbely), but I see the panoshooter most technologically advanced here and he can cope with his D200 and the Nodal Ninja: www.flickr.com/photos/sbprzd/

What is nice is that the "Nodal Ninja 3" is a bargain, but I prefer to shoot with my homebuild panomachine.

If I had enough money left I would buy the spherocam. When I saw that I immediately stopped development on my machine because they were lightyears ahead. The spherocam is probably the best package of hardware and software you can get for the purpose but it is clearly aimed at the upper professional market.

says Frank, who constructed this: panokardan.de which is also sold here under a different name: pano-fix.de which is kind of illegal because the guy does not only give no credits to me but also give no money to me and stopped delivering to me also.

Cheers

I realize that the distortion is the point of this image but I'm not convinced that a regular panorama wouldn't have been as good if not better. It's like the distortion is there for its own sake and it takes away from the feeling of "actually being there" since I don't perceive sceneries in crazy bends and curves.
the branch details are very nice.

@Mister Alpenglow: I know many people disaprove of "commenting on your own pictures", but that is not my way to see it.

I see a discussion going on below my picture and I see it as my right to moderate this discussion. I can decide not to discuss of course.

Now: "5 comments" is a very stupid notion. This is pure Layout-style.

PS: The "effect" is not interesting, you are completly on the wrong track here. The use of technology is part of photography,

a 50-mm-lens-shot is an alienation of the subject,

rectangular projection is a mere cultural practice, where spherical projection is much nearer to the natural way of grasping a scene (looking around, moving your hear)

sharpness from corner to corner is not the way we naturally see things.

Every photo is a technical abstraction, equirectangular not more or less than any other.
