V for victory

Taken on the Gion Matsuri in Narita (Japan). As usual it's nearly impossible to take a picture without people making the v-sign for you, even this this girl makes no exception...

yes I have noticed that in alot of photos and was wondering about the V-sign what exactly does that mean? and could you explain more about the why??? of that.

Allright framing. I would've probably focused on the hand instead.

Agree with the focus issue by alekzgrafix, but my guess is that you were trying to take a portrait of her and the damn hand just appeared at the last second. Therefore, I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt.

The "V" signs is not necessarily "Peace Sign" in Japan. It's connotation is more like the American "Say Cheeze" or "Thumbs Up" Some lines may draw it to the peace sign, but it's just a part of the culture and is not directly acknowledged as "Peace"

in Asia, "V" means victory...'cause in a war a solider wa captured by the enemies and going to be killed, I guess in England...then he used his fingers to give a "V" to show his side will win at the end even if he would be killed...then his enemy cut all this fingers, however, he used his arms to form a "V"...But I can not figure out the reason why people like "V" sign so much when they are taking a picture...
