The porch has long been gone now, termites. Nasty lil critters. How any God created creature can find satisfaction in eating wood goes beyond me. You got to watch your step now coming out the door. He added some stone there but Granny Nona got a bad sprain stepping on that rocky thing, blasted Granpa Anon to bits for thinking up such a foolish idea. Anyhow, many years have passed. It's up for sale now, more for the land than that there home. Weather and neglect gots the best of it since they passed. First Grandma, then a year later Grandpa died in his sleep. We all know he died of loneliness in that there house. He continued talking to her as if she were right there besides him. We let him think she was still there. He would play that old wind-up Victrola with the Edison tubes. Played their favorite song he would, and danced near that southern window where the lace curtain always blew out. The day he died a wind blew gently, ever so gently and the curtain came in, blew inside and stayed and the smell of Gardenia filled the room.
