Spent the better part of the day today walking around Detroit with my friend Dennis, messing around at Hart Plaza, taking street level pictures, chasing pigeons, lunch at American Coney Island, a beer here, a beer there, Hard Rock Cafe, running into Patty and her son...
This is the lobby of the Guardian building. While I had been by the outside many, many times, I had never gone in, and when a flickr friend, (zxgirl), an out-of-towner, posted pictures of the inside, I was amazed. I also knew I needed to go in and see it for myself.
This image is a stitch of several images, and I really wanted to showcase the Colorful Rookwood tiles, the Pewabic tiles and Atlantic terra cotta that sets this building apart from any other I've ever seen. It's amazingly colorful and intricate, and if you have not been in there before, I recommend you take the time. The security guards are camera and tripod friendly, and only ask that you do not take video.

These are awesome!!! Very well done and presented, and you fit so much into them! I love these and am really glad you finally went inside. :) I knew you and your camera would do the place justice.
By the way, while I know there is extensive use of Pewabic tiles in the building, this page says "Brilliantly colored Rookwood tiles fill the lobby’s vaulted ceiling."
