Axel A. Strom, Chicago Pioneer, died suddenly in New York of heart trouble. He'd gone to the East Coast on business and expected to return alive. His son, daughter-in-law, and grandchild all died during the flu epidemic in 1919. His home was once one of those mansions on North Sheridan road that are now ugly high rise apartments.... It was located at 6039 Sheridan road and in 1969 got the wrecking ball... HOLY COW! That's where my friend Julio lives in some ugly condo.

We think this used to sit in the parlor of the Talbot family of 5954 Kenmore (long before that neighborhood declined; their mansion was one of those torn down to build the sunken apartment buildings known as a 4 X 1). The store Talbots originated in Massachusetts in the 17th Century, and the head of this family came from Massachusetts to Chicago in 1869. His name is Joel Francis Talbot, and I reckon he's related to Talbots.

Joel F. Talbot was the head of a paper company.
