just a quicker way to get the proportions
exact.. i dont always use it, many of the
drawings in the "drawings" set are
just done freehand, i only use this technique
when i want the finished drawing to have a
photorealistic quality.
I like the escher feel to it too, I kind've
like the half finished look to it. Instead of
the finished (no doubt will be amazing) shot
of the portrait, this photo shows how good
the portrait is, how good it will be, how
talented you are, how much work you have to
put in, how much you have yet to put in and
even you working on it. In short...it's not
bad! lol
i never smudge. I did when i was a kid..
around the age of 14 an art teacher casually
said to me "a truly good pencil drawer
never smudges"
i realized she had a point, and it stuck.
Smudging is not, in my oppinion, a cool
technique to use with pencil... if you're
working with chalk, charcoal or pastels,
that's another matter entirely..

I see that you use the grid technique. I remember learning that back when I did my associate degre in graphic design.
Make sure you post the finished version of this as it is coming along nicely.
_rebekka (85 months ago | reply)
yeah i use a grid when doing really exact work like this..
and i will post the finished work.. a month from now i imagine.. tedious:)

It looks good but why do you use the grid technique?

your drawings are extrodinarily fine. this is an excellent self portrait. reminiscent of an escher drawing of hands.
_rebekka (85 months ago | reply)
self portrait? you mean because my hand is in the frame? never thought of it that way:)

Do you smudge your final drawing to blend it and create a photorealistic drawing?
