MAM_Wallpapper

I created this image as wallpaper for my computer. Reduced saturation in THE GIMP, changed the black point and lighting a little in Photomatix.

The detail in the original is phenomenal. Even in this reduced image it's quite startling. I'm constantly surprised and pleased by this little camera.

What a beast. Looks like half of it is viewfinder prism.

It's an example of pure function with little thought to ergonomics, especially off of a tripod. That viewfinder is a metering prism and solid glass.

Camera body, 90mm lens, waist level finder and back tips the scales right at 6 pounds. The rig as pictured with the 50mm lens, metering prism, back, and hand grip is right at 9 pounds. The weight is staggering if you try to carry it for any length of time. I put a towel around my neck for short excursions around town or in the field. Hand holding is possible and oftentimes rewarding but not a habit I enjoy.

Beast indeed it is! But, for studio and landscape work nothing in medium format film can touch it with it's focusing bellows and super lenses. A humble statement based on 30 years of use and abuse.

It's primarily a tripod proposition. The images are usually spectacular when scanned. When printed they are as good as any, (if I do my job correctly.) Lately I have used these more than the 4x5's and - in practical terms - that's just fine. I haven't had any commissions for billboards in the last 15 years anyway. I've 4 bodies, two prisms, six lenses, some grips and extension tubes to go with the waist level finders and backs. It all fits nicely in a very large steamer trunk.

This image makes a good wallpaper. Neutral colors, icons of all sorts show up just fine to these old eyes.
