Free Biafra and free Nnamdi Kanu - Biafran separatist leader imprisoned in Nigeria.

Biafran activists protest in London outside the British parliament - most of them seem to have been supporters of IPOB (an anacroym for the Indigenous People of Biafra ) - a peaceful secessionist movement for the restoration of the sovereignty for the former Republic of Biafra in southern and eastern areas of Nigeria.

As well as demanding more independence and respect for human rights, the Biafran separatist demonstrators were also calling for the release from a Nigerian prison of Nnamdi Kanu detained last October.

He is a leading member of the Biafran independence struggle and director of the London based Radio Biafra and was detained on 18 October 2015. Biafran activists say he has never used or advocated violence and should be considered a prisoner of conscience but he has now been charged with treason for which he faces a possible life sentence.

According to IPOB, many of its' member have been killed in demonstrations for greater independence since autumn 2015 and separatist activists jailed. Amnesty international said it was investigating reports of human rights violations.

More information on the IPOB movement can be found at www.ipob.org.
