angry/suprised owl

Amelia wanted to wear her Halloween costume today, so I took the opportunity to get a few action shots.

Here she is, practicing the expressions for "angry" and "surprised," at the same time.

Cute costume. Adorable girl...smart too (anyone who celebrates Halloween more than once a year is smarter than the average bear!) What did you use for the "feathered" fabric? I see you have some extra texture in the area of the beak. What is that?

      Fabrics:
The body of the owl is a long-haired fake fur, but upside down so that it pokes out like baby owl down, rather than looking like fur.

The bit of extra texture below the face is a tiny piece of very expensive silk boucle' scavenged from my days as a seamstress in an interior dec. workroom. I ravelled it partially so that there's a few different weights of curly threads hanging down. I think it's pretty charming.

Great use of materials! I love the idea of upside down fur to create baby down.
