Hello Big Brother

Hello Big Brother

With some hesitation I pulled the trigger on the 105/2 DC lens this week... the 105/2.5 has been my hands down favorite lens since I took it to Spain last May and I've just found more and more that that focal length on FX/Film makes sense to me. I had rented the 105/2.8 Micro AF-S last summer for a wedding and while I was dutifully blown away by the sharpness and the slick VR the handling wasn't my cup of tee (its like a cannon). All this left me curious about the 105 and 135 DC and then fate/c-list intervened...

Someone listed the lens and II inquired, turns out it was a wedding photographer I knew through my cousin.... such a small world!! Anyway that settled it and I picked it up last night. It is significantly bigger than the 105/2.5 but it handles very nice, its about the same length as my 35-70/2.8 with the hood attached, it feels just a hair lighter than that. I love how recessed the front element is even before you extend the hood, it reminds me of the 55/2.8 in that way. The balance is great on the D700 and F5.

So I took it out to Yards Park with my dog Knish this evening and I'm REALLY happy with the first results, can't wait to get some people in front of the lens and really see what it can do!

Wavy Sunset

The wavy benches are really distinctive at Yards Park in SE DC, the sun was setting just right to set it off tonight.
