More and more young people these days are choosing "bike and bus" as their preferred mode of transportation. It's simple and economical, and it gets beyond the "Gotta have a job so I afford the car that I need to get to my job" syndrome.
With the cost of gas and insurance and everything else going up -- plus the burden of student loan debt for many young people -- transit just makes a lot of sense.
We don't know if that describes Bee's situation, but in this photo she loads her bike on a Route 556 bus in Downtown Overland Park for the trip back to Missouri where she lives.
Route 556 is relatively safe in the round of transit cuts coming up in January because it's the heart of the "CONNEX" bus rapid transit route that's being installed along Metcalf and Shawnee Mission Parkway
Why can't Johnson County Commissioners understand that today's young people want transit -- and that if they can't get it in Johnson County, Kansas, they'll just take their energy and talents across the state line into Missouri.
