kobenstyle score

I almost cried when I grabbed this today. People around me must've been aghast as I was murmuring omigod omigod omigod and grinning wildly.

After giving her a good scrubdown I promply sat down to some research. It says:
    Dansk
    Designs
    France
    IHQ
    ©

It is from a line of many enameled wares by Dansk called "Kobenstyle." Dansk is an American company but this piece was made in France and by Danish designer Jens Quistgaard. Some time in the mid 50's to 60's. That's all I know.

It's hard to get an angle that shows the overall grace of this piece, which has an ever-so-slight gourdlike shape.

      Oh it's a beauty, alright = )

I'll bet it's quite heavy as well...?

Suprisingly, it feels about the same or less than my ceramic crock. Definitely less than an iron le cruset- the metal is so thin. Unforunately, I've read that because of this, it doesn't conduct as well or cook as evenly.

      Where did you find it?????

at the salvay in hellameda. I hear they've become a bit more valuable because Rachel Ray is known to collect them now.

here is the best single source of info I've found.

If you eBay, Dansk Designs ads come up for auction occasionally, as do (even more rarely) catalog/product pamphlets. More than a few ads feature the Kobenstyle pots. I'm a fan of their teak peppermills, myself.

Jens Quistgaard died just recently, on January 4, 2008.

Eeeeeeeek! I adore this! I've never seen a pot this tall in Dansk's KØBENSTYLE series. To hell with cooking in it (if it's not up to what you require in a pot like this)--I'd just look at it all day!

I have a couple of the oblong casseroles and one red-orange small round pot with lid. Did you have to pay a lot? Acquiring minds want to know . . . !

Darn that Rachel Ray! Add her to the Martha Stewart pile and flambé them both! They've single-handledly ruined the market on Jadeite, Texas Ware (and Boonton, etc.) Melmac confetti bowls, and driven the prices out of sight.
And now this?!? Cut it out, already. Arrrrggghhh.

Nice score-this shape makes a great stock pot and it doesn't need to be super heavy on the bottom. Great color!
EPV-yes to the flambe-when I can stand Rachel Ray's terminal perkiness I watch to see the Texasware- but jeez she only uses it for a "trash" bowl. And don't forget Martha making bakelite pricey too!

Bakelite, too?!? Oh, the horror of it! Fine for her; she can afford to buy every piece she sees. Bleccccchhh.

And to anyone who loves RR's show, my apologies, but I am totally with you on the perkiness; it's really hard to take.
And please leave the English vernacular alone, Rache. "Yum-o"? Gag me with a spoon.
      (Sorry, I'm cranky today.)
