The Fossil Factory

The Fossil Factory

We've been away for a short break. One of my oldest friends/our best man and his wife have been over here on a 5 week holiday from Australia, and asked me to organise a short tour along the South coast with them, as they have not previously visited this area.

As it happened I managed to score a success with the selection of accommodation and itinerary, whilst Ramon's choice of week happily coincided with the best weather of the year so far.

Our first overnight stop was at Lyme Regis, and we took Ramon and Trish down to the beach to go fossil hunting. Much to her delight, within a couple of minutes of starting to break upon rocks newly fallen from the cliff she found a lovely amonite fossil.

These are not ones we disclosed ourselves. The beach is strewn with wonderful fossils in large wave-washed stones. The largest of these three is about a metre across, but others are larger still.

The beaches either side of Lyme itself are just so productive of fossils the title for this triptych suggested itself.
