Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche's 70th Birthday Celebrations
The afternoon celebrations were dedicated to Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche’s 70th birthday, and also the 33rd anniversary of his ordination as a Gelong monk. The ‘birthday party’ took place in the brand new lecture theatre, with several hundred students, family and friends – old and new - in attendance. The programme began with Lama Zangmo, Lama Tsondru and Lama Rinchen making a traditional Mandala offering before representatives from Samye Dzongs around the world – even as far away as South Africa – made extensive offerings to Lama Yeshe Rinpoche.
Other highlights of the afternoon included a video message from Chamgon Khenting Tai Situ Rinpoche, and a truly special gift presented to Lama Rinpoche by his brother Akong Tulku Rinpoche – a White Tara thangka painted by His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje. In a touching demonstration of respect and appreciation, Lama Rinpoche immediately offered the precious thanka back to Akong Rinpoche. The afternoon would not have been complete without the very impressive cake prepared by the kitchen and speeches from Akong Tulku Rinpoche and Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche.
