stone setting

(Tuolumne River) Glen Aulin, Yosemite National Park, August 2005... a day hike from Tuolumne meadows, lots of water, rocks and beautiful nature.

Great photo! Interesting rocks! I like the way the shadow is falling to the right of each rock in the formation.

I see you did get inspired by that balancing rocks photo! Lovely setting - and I dig the stick on the top - it wasn't the last straw, I gather!

Love the rock sculpture and the view. I would have taken a much closer shot to the pile of rocks but great capture all the same. Nice one. 3-2-1

    15. Rexton (78 months ago | reply)

The steepness of the sculpture somehow evokes the steepness of the cliffs in the background. The river guides you from the statues to the cliff. Very well composed.

      Look at me

Love it - get a real feeling for the place - maybe a lower perspectiv eon the sculpture could have given it a more contrasting background (eg sky)?

I'm not sure who Dave Gorman is... I think rock balancing has been around a long time... might be interesting to trace its origins.

I love the detail in the foreground yet it is also an exquisite landscape...very unusual to convey both in one photo.

I'll let Dave Gorman explain who he is. :-)
I'd never heard of rock balancing as a hobby before I saw his pics (I'd read his books), and recognised the name.

hmm, i quite like the rock that look like human, but if the color of background is soften, like there is a bit of mist, maybe nicer.

Interesting composition, but too hard light. I´d like to see it with softer tones
