Long Light 1

    Newer Older

Thank you to DeForestRanger aka Crow for this wonderful lesson. As I usually shoot during lunch, I have been missing out on this wonderful phenomena of "long light" all this time. The length of the light really does make a difference! I went up to the top floor of the Buss Station carpark and took various shots of the city, which were quite nice, but this one of the bus parking depot downstairs stood out when it came time to choose one for posting.

May 2012 Scavenger Challenge #9. Take advantage of the Golden Hours to make a photo in "long light."

    Taken with iPhone 4S.

Oh yes - right after the sun rises and just before the sun sets is a beautiful, warm lighting.

It certainly is a wonderful time of day for photography, although the shadows can sometimes be a challenge. The No. 13 on the pillar creates a slightly sinister atmosphere in this scene. Love it!

Yes! This is a good example of "long light." Notice the quality of the light. There is a yellow-gold tone to it because of the low angle of the sun. In another half hour or so, that color tinge would disappear. You'd still have long shadows, but the "Golden Hour" look wouldn't be present. Well done!
