1st stop in Burma was Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda
It housed an enormous reclining Buddha
We meet our guide Thiha
This Buddha was both huge AND colorful
Toenails the size of a human head
Buddha's crown has diamonds and gems
Notice his bidi--a more Hindu touch
The all-seeing eye
His crown and belt are encrusted with jewels
Buddha was 216 feet long!
The people here give an idea of its size
Each symbol on the Buddha's feet stood for something
The detailed work was incredible
People honor (not worship) Buddhas when they get a chance
We stayed at same hotel as Hilary Clinton on her visits
The hotel was excellent, with a view of downtown Yangon (Rangoon)
Much of this distortion is high humidity
