Gorgeous shot. Love the color and perspective.

Thanks for that. I don't think the technical quality is that great (it's a 500 mm mirror lens on a tripod at, but it was a windy day and I suspect some heat haze effects too) - but I like the "painterly" effect this lens gets on occasion.

the composition is very nice here, i l also like the 500mm effect, the background seems to be crushed on the trees. you already mentioned its mayor flaw, the quality of the lens/weather makes the colors a bit strange, i have the feeling its a bit too blue, furthermore the sharpness and so on is also not nice, i don't think this gives a painterly feel, it feels just off. but thats a matter of personal taste.

      overall not bad.

Thanks all. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this lens :-)

But 500 mm (1000 mm in 35 mmm terms) is really too long to be practical - this lens cost me £50 and is giving me lots of fun, I'm not about to spend several thousands on a top Zuiko...

Sympathy with the hayfever - I'm finding the pills sort-of work

David Norfolk cool, I would also spend some time playing around with such a lens, it is probably a lot of fun to look through a telescope like that :)

@willemmas: Yes it is fun. But when you're a mile away from the Cherwell White Horse, say, and the frame isn't quite big enough, moving several hundred yards backwards often isn't feasible. Which is kinda annoying :-)

      hahaha i can imagine...

I love the light on the trees in the foreground, and then the backdrop-effect behind.

Wow, the front scene really stands out. Like it's a different image stuck on another.
      Wonderful.

The "problem" with very long lenses (apart from limited DoF is softness from atmosheric haze and air movements. I think this pic makes an advantage vout of necessity....

I agree with the painterly feeling, I love how the light catches on the trees.
      Great capture :)
