i was trying to position the greatest areas of bokeh over her shoulder, and the shadows from the trees fell in the corners.

I love that I have willing models and a great place to shoot, all right at home. Leiane got a new sweater and hat and felt like showing it off, so we went to the backyard for magic hour. Speedlite in a softbox for key light high left of camera, white reflector camera right for fill, sun light for rim, backlighting, and beautiful jewel-like bokeh from leaves catching the light all over the ground. I stood in a chair to shoot slightly from above.
Strobist: YN460 @ 1/16 power in reflective brolly softbox high left of camera.

This is just beautiful! Leiane, the color palette, the light, the background, the processing... everything!
The balance of ambient light with flash is very nice. Did you have a certain look or ratio in mind when you set up the shot? (I'm guessing you based exposure on the ambient background light and then adjusted the flash accordingly.)
