Chip for your thoughts?

Well, if only I were as perky as this little character. He rummaged through my camera bag at Lake Morraine and basically everywhere but up my pants leg. Obviously a tourist hold-up guy...
Well, he was in for a letdown, I wasn't packing any food.
I remember having these guys around when I was a little tike, but noone ever sees one anymore. I'd say it's likely cat destruction.

Cats have a lot to answer for over here as well. They go feral and wreak destruction on the native species. I loved these little guys on our Canadian trip. This one looks like a stand-up comedian in a cartoon.

Yes, I dearly miss the one where I didn't get a shot of the chipmunk checking out a guy's Nikon that the guy set on a bench

wow he gave you a great pose didn't he? i've seen a few chipmunks on mt. bike trails, and there are a couple i've nearly ran over. they seem to enjoy danger.

@Jonas, in Arkansas or elsewhere? They used to be everywhere ?

    7. makeupanid (52 months ago | reply)

ha, ha, great pose! They are everywhere at our park!

that would have been sweet with the Nikon :D

I've seen little chipmunks around here, Lake Fayetteville, as well as Devil's Den - where one jumped in front of just for the thrill of living on the edge. They are pretty easy to spot, looking so cute and with that slight white color marking. I must admit though, when i think about it, it is not very often I see them.

Without the colorful clothes, it's hard to tell if this is Alvin, Simon, or Theodore.

Looks like a golden-mantled ground squirrel (Spermophilus lateralis) rather than a chipmunk. Chipmunks have stripes that extend over their eyes. :)

Cute little guy, though! We saw them all the time in the Rockies when I was growing up.

Ah...ok, thanks Abi. I will have another ground squirrel for you to id in a week or two (same trip...same locale) :)
