ODC Floating

    July 12, 2011 - ODC Floating.

My youngest son loves being the daredevil, so when I asked him if he would jump about on the trampoline while I took some photos of him floating he literally jumped at the opportunity.

This was shot late afternoon, the moon had risen but the sky was deep blue. I used a flash set to -1 EV to give light to my son, but not burn out the skin (the flash also helped to freeze the movement). what looks like a small shadow around the hands and arm is actually some slight movement during the photo.

I gave it a little post production with a slight increase in the colour saturation and a darkening of the edges to place even more emphasis on the fact the he was floating in the sky.

I have some other ones of him literally sitting mid air, but this one gave the best feel of floating.

Clever use of flash to freeze the action when you can't do it with shutter speed alone.

I like this photo, and your explanation. This is a learning experience for me and everything helps now. I think it's great that you worked with your child to get this shot.

Nice Work MrLemming. The flash and the sharpness of focus makes him look almost superimposed. Very cool.

This is just superb, Simon - subtle fill-in flash, great stopped motion, effective angle for the floating theme, love the colour saturation. Excellent!
