    I saw several of these on Thursday at the London Wetland Centre - there seems to be two kinds, a yellow/green type and this darker type.

    Any idea of that would be two species, or just immature and mature flies?

    I think you saw different species. Alderflies are always this colour. Might the green type have been a Lacewing?

    I'd say it was a alderfly heavily coated in pollen. Best to try wildaboutbritain, or one of the UK yahoo british_insects group.
