A photograph of where we get things done every day. It is a very large room furnished as a kitchen, but with multiple functions. With the work island and the big dining table in the middle of the room as the beating heart where family and friends gather for food preparation, a good laugh or deeper conversations.
The table is our meeting point. For a fine meal, perhaps to work at or simply to get together. Other in-room gadgets include state-of-the-art technology including a 46" flat screen built-in internet TV with cable channels, a blue ray DVD/HDD player, wired internet, Wi-Fi access and iPad's.
It is the perfect spot for my children to do their homework too. I fix dinner while my children complete their homework for the night. We make it a family affair by setting up the island to meet homework needs. We have a supply of paper and writing instruments available and a laptop for computer needs. I can answer questions or help solve problems while working in the kitchen. My regular attention makes it more likely that our children will take their homework assignments seriously. We have a drawer nearby for each child to keep track of assignments and ensure that school books or day packs are ready to go the next day.
