Life on the Canal

On a couple of occasions over the past 6 months I’ve done photo walks along the Regents Canal, from Little Venice to Kings Cross. There is one section of the walk that passes through a small “town” of permanently situated house boats. On most of the canal, house boats can take up residence for a few weeks before having to move elsewhere. This keeps the house boats moving and prevents the occupants from staying put for years at a time. However in the stretch of the canal where this was taken the boats have been in situ for years and the residents have made the pathway area their own, with all the things one would associate with permanent residents living anywhere. There are tables and chairs and BBQs and children’s toys scattered all around and the walkers, like me, simply pass through the middle of it all. It has a certain charm that I really like. So this is a little vignette of that “residential” area on the canal with an assortment of objects that caught my eye.

* Please disregard the map coordinates for this location. I tried to set them using my iPad and completely mucked it up. I have to get onto my computer to sort it out but won’t get the chance for a few days.
