Oyster Mushroom

According to a friend who knows a lot more about fungi than I do, this is probably the oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus). It was growing on a beech log in the Rivelin Valley near Sheffield, UK.

If it's Pleurotus ostreatus it is edible.

Certainly looks like the Oyster mushroom, - and the time of year fits perfectly. Slightly more brownish than usually seen here in Denmark but no doubt the Oyster 'shroom.
