Private Ferdinand Truell of the 12th Wisconsin Infantry. The 12th Wisconsin Infantry was organized in Madison, Wisconsin from October 18th to December 13th, 1861. It was mustered out on July 20, 1865. The 12th Wisconsin Infantry was at Vicksburg, Atlanta, Salkehatchie Swamp, Bentonville, and other fights. They were present at the surrender of Johnston and his army and marched in the Grand Review on May 24th, 1865. The unit lost 3 Officers and 93 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 3 Officers and 224 Enlisted men by disease for a total of 323.
