The Fun Franks Experiment
I saw this recipe over on Miss Retro Modern's page and had to try it out. I don't know why I am so fascinated with living out every crazy craft and recipe from the past days, but I am!
For this one, you basically take a cheese sandwich, wrap it in a wiener (in this case - a fake wiener) and slather the whole thing with butter and bake for 5 minutes. The smiling faces are made with ketchup (which actually was the hardest part of the recipe...trying to get the ketchup to squirt out in the right consistency - during certain stages, these little fellas looked like Motor Vehicle Injury Fun Franks.
They were fun to make and though cute, tasted quite overwhelmingly greasy and buttery. The bread soaked up the butter and wiener grease like a little smiling sponge....
A little while after lunch, I found Mr. Kitsch standing in the kitchen. He was staring at the pile of dishes covered in ketchup and butter. He then said, " I hate to say it...but I feel a little ill at ease after that meal..."

Yeah, I've got nothing but time.... : )
I like your new name! Can I still call you "Miss Monkey Moonshine" though? It kind of grew on me...

A visual triumph! I have to say, though, that ill-at-ease feelings are to be expected whenever trying out these recipes ...

Ha! Thanks! Yes, I told him that there would probably be more to come as I am really getting into the groove with these old recipes....but I also told him that he NEVER has to try them if he feels anxious about them. He can hold my hair when I vomit. That will be enough...

Shreddy: If not appetizing, interesting always makes up for it.
Sunbeam Bears: Really? I can imagine that actually...
Lilac Bonzai: I hadn't heard of her - but I looked her up and I love her eyebrows!
Jacob: You better watch out what you wish for. I get the feeling the photos would be pure yuck!

Yes, their smiles definitely mask something sinister!

I see them hitting your stomach then suddenly switching to angry faces :)

If I was commissioned to make an educational cartoon about clogged arteries, this is exactly how i would portray the anthropomorphized fat cells.
* Eartha Kitsch * (57 months ago | reply)
Jacob: I am living proof that your theory is real. I felt like hurling, my friend.
Maproom Systems: Oooh! i wish that you WOULD be commissioned for that! What fun!

So true to form! An excellent reproduction, Eartha! I'm sorry they left you feeling so unsettled!
* Eartha Kitsch * (57 months ago | reply)
Not unsettled in a bad way...I like to feel challenged - even when it comes to meals. They were lots of fun to make. And one thing that is good, making these crazy recipes gives me lots of laughs - something you never can get enough of!

I am so hoping that we are all invited to your next dinner party!
Miss Retro Modern (57 months ago | reply)
Oh, I agree Eartha. The brick-in-your-stomach feeling is usually worth the effect!
* Eartha Kitsch * (57 months ago | reply)
Randeclip: Be careful what you hope for!
Miss Retro Modern: Certainly! I've had many a meal that wasn't fun at all that left me feeling worse than this one. I think it's workable.

@* Eartha Kitsch *: I feel sorry for Mr. Kitsch in all of this.
* Eartha Kitsch * (57 months ago | reply)
He's okay. I swear. I'm good to him AND I wash the dishes after these meals.

Thanks! : ) If only I'd known about your birthday party - I could have made you some. Though, they might have taken away some of the air of elegance from your party!

Sedanman: I hate to admit it...but it does! I think it's our inate nature to dominate something and then eat it. Okay, that is kind of sad...but still...
Sparkleneely: Oh yes, the joy comes strictly from looking at it.
Punchandsizzle: Thanks! : )
Mod*Mom: Well, thanks! : )
a.rud.beth: Thanks! Sadly, it's true...
