I first attempted this shot back in January 2009. I was headed from Disney's Hollywood Studios to the Magic Kingdom so shoot the fireworks from Main Street but was running late and couldn't set up at Casey's Corner where I planned to shoot that night so I went off looking for other spots and happened to find this location by accident. The shots from that first attempt were less than acceptable. I managed to either badly underexpose the scene or to blow out the fireworks in every shot I took that night.
When I started planning out locations to shoot the fireworks during my recent Pixelmania trip, I decided to try this location again. This time, I had a new tool in my bag, a 4x6 LEE split grad ND filter and a LEE holder that would allow me to darken the sky while not affecting the Liberty Belle Riverboat or the buildings. I'm very happy to report that it worked perfectly.
